ASUU Strike: Why Academic Activities Are Still Low at LASU

The Lagos State University (LASU) shall resume teaching activities after its Senate meets next week to design a new academic calendar, fix a schedule for students to return.   Mr. Sola Fosudo, the Acting Director, Centre for Information, LASU Press and Public Relations Unit, made this known to press in a telephone conversation on December 19, 2013, Thursday. “Technically, the school has resumed since the ASUU strike was suspended , but the senate will be meeting to design the timetable and also choose a date for resumption. “The decision of the Senate will be communicated to all as soon as the meeting is held,” he said. LASU Official spoke as activities remained low in the university’s Ojo Campus, though lecturers were seen around. Yes of course, there is a link. The National Universities Commission in developing or revising university curriculum, factors in the content of the lower level curriculum, in this case, that of the secondary level. Take the B.Sc. Chemistry programme for example, efforts are made to ensure that the contents of 100-level courses are pitched at the exit level of the senior school certificate. This way, fresh students are guaranteed smooth transition from secondary to the university.
